Leesburg Town Council Sets Special Election for February 6,
2018
Special election will fill the vacancy created by Kenneth Reid’s resignation.
Leesburg, VA (November 21, 2017) – The Town of Leesburg will hold a special election on
Tuesday, February 6, 2018, to fill the remainder of a Council Member term expiring on
December 31, 2020. This Council Member seat became vacant on December 1, 2017, due to the
resignation of Council Member Kenneth Reid.
In order to be eligible to run in the special election, candidates must be qualified to vote in
Leesburg Town Council elections and must have been residents of the Commonwealth of
Virginia for at least one year immediately preceding the election.
Interested candidates are required to file certain documents, including a Statement of
Economic Interests, a Certificate of Candidate Qualification, a Declaration of Candidacy, an d a
petition of registered voters with a minimum of 125 signatures, with the Loudoun County
General Registrar in order to the placed on the ballot. These forms are available for download
from the Virginia State Board of Elections website at www.elections.virginia.gov/candidatepac-
info. The deadline for filing as a candidate is 5:00 p.m. on Friday, December 8, 2017.
