Leesburg Launches “Adopt-a-Hydrant” Program
Town seeks community partners to keep hydrants visible and accessible in case
of emergency.
Leesburg, VA (December 1, 2017) – The Leesburg Utilities Department needs your assistance!
In the event of a fire, it is imperative for the fire company to be able to gain access quickly to
hydrants for water supply. Sometimes, however, hydrants are not visible or easily accessible,
particular in the winter after snowstorms.
Through the new Adopt-a-Hydrant program, residents, businesses and civic organizations can
help ensure that hydrants aren’t blocked or obscured. By adopting a hydrant, the adopter
commits to keep a three-foot radius around the hydrant free of snow in the winter and brush or
weeds in the warmer months, and to notify the Utilities Department promptly if the hydrant
needs repair or other attention.
To participate in Leesburg’s Adopt-a-Hydrant program, visit the town website at
www.leesburgva.gov/adopt-a-hydrant. Using the interactive map, select a hydrant to adopt and
complete the online application. After registering, adopters will receive an “adoption
certificate” via email.
