OPPOSING THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION'S PLAN TO TRANSFER
CONTROL OVER PORT NEW ARK AND FIVE OTHER AMERICAN
PORTS TO DUBAI PORTS WORLD
WHEREAS, the Bush Administration has proposed allowing the sale of a British
company, Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Company, to Dubai Ports
World, owned by Dubai, part of the United Arab Emirates; and
WHEREAS, the above described deal would transfer contracts to operate
tenninals at Port Newark and five other American pOlis to Dubai Ports; and
WHEREAS, the security and integrity of American ports, including Port Newark,
is a national security issue and is inextricably linked to overall homeland security
and the protection of the American people, obviously including New Jerseyans.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Council of the
Borough of Carteret that the Bush Administration deal to allow the transfer of
contracts to operate tenl1inals at Port Newark and five other American ports
should be stopped.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of the Resolution be forwarded to
Carteret's Congressional Representatives.
