SUMMARY STATEMENT:
The McCall Historic Preservation Commission is responsible for "promoting the educational, cultural, economic and
general welfare of the public through the identification, evaluation, designation and protection of those buildings, sites,
areas, structures and objects which reflect significant elements of the City's, the State's and the nation's historic
architectural, archaeological and cultural heritage." (MCC 2-4-010). One strategy is to nominate properties to the
National Register of Historic Places, and the HPC has compiled a list of currently listed properties and those
potentially eligible for listing (attached). The National Register nomination process is a lengthy one and usually
requires the services of an architectural historian to prepare the nomination. While the HPC plans to continue to
pursue national recognition status for suitable properties, it is also interested in creating a recognition program for
properties that exist in McCall that have local historical significance.
The HPC has developed a list of properties that have they have identified as instrumental to McCall's development and
history. Attached are suggested criteria for selection of those properties. The Commission has designed a logo that
would be suitable for a recognition plaque that would be awarded to the property owner of the selected property, and
has consulted with a graphics company which has provided a price quote for the plaque. Accordingly, once properties
are identified and recognized, the Commission would develop a "walking tour" brochure that would allow visitors and
residents to visit the properties and learn more about McCall's past.
