SUMMARY STATEMENT:
The Idaho State Historical Society, through the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO), offers grants to
communities with the "Certified Local Government" (CLG) status. The City of McCall is a CLG, and
qualifies for funding for eligible projects.
In 1991-92 seven of the buildings at the Central Idaho Historical Museum were nominated to the
National Register of Historic Places. The Assistant Fire Warden's house (built in 1950) did not meet the
criteria at that time because it was less than 50 years old. It now meets that criteria, and it is the desire of the
Historic Preservation Commission to seek a nomination for that building to the National Register.
The Old McCall Jail is owned by the City of McCall and was built in 1930. It has been restored, and the
Commission is interested in National Register status for that building.
In order to prepare a nomination, the SHPO recommends hiring a consultant who specializes in such
nomination work. CLG grants pay for these consultant services. There is a 50% match requirement, and
volunteer time (in -kind) can be used for match. It is expected that approximately $500 of cash will be
required to contribute to the matching share.
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Approve submission of a CLG for National Register status of the Assistant Fire Warden's house and the
Old McCall Jail, and authorize the Mayor to sign all necessary documents.
