DAT TOWN AUDITT ff TO: Michael J. Driscoll,Town Manager CC: Library Board of Trustees FROM: Leone E. Cole, Library Directoric DATE: June 23, 2011 RE: Transfer request As part of the library renovation and expansion project, a generator was installed (in the space between the library and the fire station)to ensure minimum fighting and power during a power outage. The generator is powered by diesel fuel and is set to test itself each week for ten minutes each time. We have received several complaints from the fire department that when their windows are open, the fumes that the generator emits during the testing enter the building. They requested that a vent be installed on the generator that would route the fumes away from the fire station (up and over the library roof). As an alternative solution,we changed the time of the testing to 8:00am which is the time of shift change thinking that even if the windows were open, the fumes would not be a factor for the ten minutes the generator is running. Subsequent to that change, the generator came on twice in one week when there were brief power outages. As a result, the fire department requested again that the library install a vent. The Library Trustees voted to request a transfer in order to have a vent installed on the Library generator. Subsequent to a review of various options by the Building Inspector, the attached quote in the amount of$3,024 is the recommended course of action. Therefore given the above,we respectfully request a transfer of funds in the amount of$3,024 from the Library Full Time Account to the Library Building Maintenance Account.
