SUMMARY STATEMENT:
Bill Keating, a long-time City employee and former Public Works Director, died in a plane crash in McCall
on May 2, 2008. Bill played a critical role in the process of converting the `Sheep Bridge' into a public
amenity. He worked closely with Bob Hunt, the developer of River's Crossing, to ensure that the Sheep
Bridge would be reconstructed and be open to bicycles and pedestrians. This bridge had special significance
to Bill because of his long tenure in the community and the interesting coincidence that one of his early jobs
for the Public Works Department was to build a temporary bridge across the Payette River near this location
for recreational use.
Carol Keating and her family have been consulted about this memorial and will be honored by its presence.
Bob Hunt has also been consulted and is pleased that his generous donation to the community will be
associated with Bill's memory.
Attached is proposed language for a plaque to be placed on the bridge, dedicating it to Bill's memory.
If approved by the Council, a ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony will be held on August 21, 2009.
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Approve the dedication of the Sheep Bridge in memory of Bill Keating, and direct staff to prepare a
suitable plaque and dedication ceremony.
