HomeMy Public PortalAboutORD16347BILL NO. 2023-003 SPONSORED BY Councilmember Spencer ORDINANCE NO. 11,347 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI, DESIGNATING 1431 GREEN BERRY ROAD AS A LOCAL HISTORIC LANDMARK. WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 8-42 of the City Code, the City of Jefferson Historic Preservation Commission (CJHPC) is required to evaluate properties within the City for potential designation as historic landmarks; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 8-44 of the City Code, a property is eligible for landmark designation if the CJHPC determines that it meets any of the following criteria: 1. Its character, interest or value as part of the development, heritage or cultural characteristics of the community, county, state or nation. 2. Its location as a site of significant local, county state or national event. 3. Its identification with a person or persons who significantly contributed to the development of the community, county, state or nation. 4. Its embodiment of distinguishing characteristics of an architectural style valuable for the study of a period, type, method of construction or use of indigenous materials. 5. Its identification as a work of a master builder, designer, architect, or landscape architect whose individual work has influenced the development of the community, county, state or nation. 6. Its embodiment of elements of design, detailing, materials, or craftsmanship that render it architecturally significant. 7. Its embodiment of design elements that make it structurally or architecturally innovative. 8. Its unique location or singular physical characteristics that make it an established or familiar visual feature. 9. Its character as a particularly fine or unique example of a utilitarian structure, including, but not limited to, farmhouses, gas stations or other commercials with a high level of integrity or architectural significance. WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 8-45 of the City Code, Wayne Brondel, owner of 1431 Green Berry Road, historically known as The Dewey House, applied for designation of the building as a local historic landmark; and WHEREAS, the Historic Preservation Commission found that 1431 Green Berry Road meets Criterion 1-9; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 8-42 of the City Code, the City of Jefferson Historic Preservation Commission has recommended this property for designation as an historic landmark. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The property known as The Dewey House, 1431 Green Berry Road, is hereby designated as a historic landmark. Section 2. The City Administrator is hereby authorized and directed to cause the appropriate plaque to be provided to the owners of sites designated as Landmarks. Section 3. This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after the date of its passage and approval.
