Foxridge Park Stormwater Pond Ribbon Cutting
Leesburg, VA (April 27, 2018) – Please join Mayor Kelly Burk, the Leesburg Town Council, the
Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy, Loudoun County High School’s Environmental Club and Science
Honor Society, Cub Scout Pack 663, and Girl Scout Troop 70027 at a ribbon cutting ceremony to
celebrate the completed retrofit of the stormwater pond at Foxridge Park.
WHAT: Foxridge Park Stormwater Pond Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
WHEN: Saturday, May 5, 2018
10:00 a.m.
WHERE: Foxridge Park
525 Catoctin Cir SW
Leesburg, Virginia 20175
The ribbon cutting ceremony will take place in the southern section of Foxridge Park, closest to
the W&OD Trail. Attendees are encouraged to park in the parking lot at the northern section of
the park, near the pavilion, and walk along the trail to the ribbon cutting location.
As part of the Town of Leesburg’s requirements to reduce stormwater pollutants flowing into
the Chesapeake Bay, the dry pond at Foxridge Park has been retrofitted as an extended
detention pond. A meandering stream through the pond slows water flow allowing pollutants
like nitrogen, phosphorus, and sediment to settle out of the water before entering area
streams.
Prior to the ribbon cutting ceremony, staff will be on hand to discuss the Foxridge Park pond
retrofit and other stormwater projects in the Town of Leesburg. The Loudoun Wildlife
Conservancy will be on hand to talk about their Audubon At Home program to help people
become better stewards of nature in their own outdoor spaces.
Following the ceremony, Mayor Burk will lead attendees in the “Monarch Pledge” to restore
habitats for Monarch butterflies in the community. Members of the LCHS Environmental Club
and Science Honor Society will help attendees plant native milkweed seedlings along the
stream banks to create a waystation for migrating Monarch butterflies.
