A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING MAIN STREET GREENCASTLE,INC.
WHEREAS, Main Street Greencastle, Inc., was founded in 1983 by the community with the
support of Indiana Landmarks as the second official Main Street organization in the state
following in the footsteps of Madison, Indiana, one of the original three 1970s Main Street
communities; and,
WHEREAS, in 2011, Greencastle was selected as one of the first Stellar Communities by the
Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs resulting in numerous new partnerships and
significant additional public and private investments; and,
WHEREAS, for the past nearly 40 years, Main Street Greencastle has played an important
leadership role in promoting the historic Courthouse Square Business District; and,
WHERAS, these efforts have resulted in numerous volunteer hours invested, substantial
economic investment, streetscape and other infrastructure improvements, promotions enjoyed by
the community, and new and expanded businesses; and,
WHEREAS, the mission of Main Street Greencastle is to develop community partnerships in
order to create and support projects and events that capitalized on downtown's historic
architecture, to be enjoyed by the community and visitors, as well as support our local businesses
and organizations.
WHEREAS, the vision of Main Street Greencastle is to create a unique atmosphere by
highlighting our local musicians, artists, and chefs, encouraging residents and visitors to support
our local businesses and organizations, while building pride in our community; and,
WHEREAS, under the Indiana Main Street program, Main Street Greencastle is applying for
accreditation to become an Indiana Accredited Main Street organization,
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, both the Mayor and the Common Council support the
following:
1. The continued partnership between the organization and the City of Greencastle.
2. The continued growth of the organization and the expansion of its efforts to support the
further development of the historic Courthouse Square Business District,
3. The mission and vision of the organization, and,
4. The application for accreditation that will be submitted to the Indiana Main Street
Program by February 10, 2022.
PASSED AND RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of Greencastle at its regular
meeting this 13th day of January, 2022.
