RESOLUTION NO. 96 -3549
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TEMPLE
CITY ESTABLISHING A POLICY FOR THE NAMING OF CITY
OWNED LAND, BUILDINGS, FACILITIES, AND STREETS.
WHEREAS, the City Council of Temple City desires to establish a policy for the naming of City
owned land, buildings, facilities, and streets; and
WHEREAS, a written policy is appropriate to provide a consistent reference for the City
Council's review and consideration.
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Temple City does hereby resolve that a
policy be instituted for the naming of City owned land, buildings, facilities, and streets and that the City
Council will give particular consideration to the following in determining the name(s) of public facilities:
SECTION 1. It shall be the City's policy that City owned land, buildings, facilities, or streets shall
not be named in honor or dedicated in memory of specific living or deceased persons.
SECTION 2. Dedications or memorials in honor or in memory of groups or organizations, such
as veterans, volunteers, pioneers, etc. (not specific individuals) that have made important or significant
contributions to the City or community may be considered in naming city owned land, buildings, facilities,
or streets, if deemed appropriate by the City Council.
SECTION 3. Building dedication plagues indicating the names of the City Council, City Manager,
building architect, contractor, etc. at the time of dedication may be used..
SECTION 4. All dedication or commemorative plaques for mounting or installation on public land,
buildings, facilities, or streets, including the wording and/or inscriptions thereon, must have City Council
approval prior to purchase and installation.
SECTION 5. This policy shall be construed prospectively as of this date.
SECTION 6. The City Clerk shall certify to the passage and adoption of this resolution.

I, City Clerk of the City of Temple City, hereby certify that the foregoing resolution, Resolution
No. 96 -3549, was duly adopted by the City Council of the City of Temple City at a regular meeting held
on the 3rd day of December, 1996.
