Cemetery Resources Board Meeting

Rebecca Gordon called the meeting to order. A quorum was present.
The Cemetery Resources Board met on Thursday, August 17, 2023 at 9:00 a.m. in the Thomas Jefferson
Room, lower level of the John G. Christy Municipal Building, 320 E. McCarty Street, Jefferson City,
Missouri.
Approval of the Minutes:
A motion was made for approval of the minutes from the July 20, 2023 meeting by Dana DeWeese,
Tavonna Robinson seconded. Minutes were approved.
Old Business:
Rebecca Gordon discussed having a meeting at a local establishment to bring community members
together to begin coordinating the upcoming Cemetery Walking Tour on October 14,2023 at Woodland
Cemetery and Old City Cemetery. The meeting was set for September 7, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Three
Story Coffee. Nancy Thompson did an update on contacts she recommended for being interpreters at
the event. Discussion occurred between Cemetery Board Members on other individuals who could help.
Dana DeWeese volunteered to coordinate the music for the event. Two music groups were discussed
and their placement. Also, members talked about Reid Miiiard carriage and where a good location
would be to place it for the walking tour. Rebecca stated she will begin advertising the event on the
newly created cemetery face book page. Discussion occurred about handicap access to the tour and
what options there were. Linda DeWeese expressed the idea of having a video of the event for
distribution for those not able to walk the cemetery. Rebecca Gordon stated should could possible use
the Facebook site for placing videos of the event. Bathrooms for the event were discussed and who to
contact at the National Cemetery for use of the facilities. Members discussed making sure volunteers
were taking care of while performing their interpretation such as providing chairs to sit, water, etc.
New Business:
David Grellner mentioned that the entrance sign to Longview Cemetery had been damage in the storm a
couple of weeks ago. Public Works Department had to remove the sign due to the damage.
Other Topics and Issues:
The next Cemetery Resources Board meeting was set for Friday, September 22, 2023 at 9:00 a.m. in the
Thomas Jefferson Conference Room at City Hall.

With no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
