Battlefield Parkway Opening Postponed to Monday, April 16,
2018
Masons Lane will be closed to through-traffic for approximately two weeks.
Leesburg, VA (April 2, 2018 ) – Due to inclement weather over the weekend and forecast for
the next several days, the opening of Battlefield Parkway has been postponed until Monday,
April 16, 2018.
On Monday, April 16, 2018, the last segment of Battlefield Parkway, from South King Street
(Route 15) to Evergreen Mill Road, will be opened to traffic. Weather permitting, the new
roadway section will open between 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. At the same time, eastbound traffic
between Evergreen Mill Road and the Dulles Greenway will be shifted onto the new eastbound
lanes.
Initially, only one lane in each direction between South King Street and Evergreen Mill Road will
be open to traffic. All construction, including final paving, sidewalk, and shared-use path, will be
completed by early June.
Masons Lane east of Gleedsville Road will be temporarily closed for approximately two weeks,
beginning Monday, April 16, 2018, for reconstruction. Drivers should follow detour signs.
During this time, Masons Lane will be limited to local traffic only. All through-traffic will be
routed onto the new section of Battlefield Parkway. The map below illustrates the temporary
traffic pattern.
Once the intersection at Masons Lane and Battlefield Parkway is reopened, traffic at that
intersection will be limited to right-in and right-out movements only. There will be no access to
Masons Lane from westbound Battlefield Parkway.
The total budget for the project was $15.8 million, with $12.75 million provided by VDOT. The
remaining funding was provided by the Town of Leesburg, Loudoun County, and the Northern
Virginia Transportation Authority. The right-of-way for Battlefield Parkway was donated to the
Town of Leesburg by the developers of the Meadowbrook Farm development.
When completed, Battlefield Parkway will be a four-lane divided arterial roadway encircling the
east side of Leesburg.
