RESOLUTION NO. 97 -3624
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TEMPLE
CITY OPPOSING SENATE BILL 567 WHICH REDUCES
REPRESENTATION ON THE METROPOLITAN TRANSPORTATION
AUTHORITY (MTA) AND SIGNIFICANTLY AFFECTS THE
COMPOSITION OF THE MTA
WHEREAS, the City of Temple City is represented on the Metropolitan Transportation Authority
(MTA) by a representative from the League of Cities and by our County Supervisor; and
WHEREAS, Senate Bill 567, sponsored by Senator Polanco, would remove from the MTA Board
of Directors the County Supervisors and thereby severely reduce the elected representation of the people
of Temple City on that Board; and
WHEREAS, such a diminishment of representation can only create a negative impact on the
quality and level of transportation services the citizens of Temple City can expect to receive from the MTA.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Temple City
hereby adopts an opposing position to SB 567 and strenuously urges Senators Adam Schiff and Richard
Mountjoy and Assemblymen Jack Scott and Robert Margett, on behalf of their constituents in Temple City,
to vigorously oppose this bill.
FURTHERMORE, in the event that our representatives are unsuccessful in their efforts to
defeat this bill, we urge them to encourage the Governor to veto SB 567.
APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 5th day of August, 1997.
