HomeMy Public PortalAboutResolution 97-36241 1 1 RESOLUTION NO. 97 -3624 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TEMPLE CITY OPPOSING SENATE BILL 567 WHICH REDUCES REPRESENTATION ON THE METROPOLITAN TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY (MTA) AND SIGNIFICANTLY AFFECTS THE COMPOSITION OF THE MTA WHEREAS, the City of Temple City is represented on the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) by a representative from the League of Cities and by our County Supervisor; and WHEREAS, Senate Bill 567, sponsored by Senator Polanco, would remove from the MTA Board of Directors the County Supervisors and thereby severely reduce the elected representation of the people of Temple City on that Board; and WHEREAS, such a diminishment of representation can only create a negative impact on the quality and level of transportation services the citizens of Temple City can expect to receive from the MTA. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Temple City hereby adopts an opposing position to SB 567 and strenuously urges Senators Adam Schiff and Richard Mountjoy and Assemblymen Jack Scott and Robert Margett, on behalf of their constituents in Temple City, to vigorously oppose this bill. FURTHERMORE, in the event that our representatives are unsuccessful in their efforts to defeat this bill, we urge them to encourage the Governor to veto SB 567.
