RESOLUTION NO. 97 -3627
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TEMPLE
CITY UPHOLDING THE PLANNING COMMISSION'S APPROVAL OF
A CONDITIONAL USE PERMIT, SUBJECT TO A MODIFIED
CONDITION, TO ALLOW AN ASSEMBLY USE DEVOTED TO THE
TEACHINGS BUDDHISM, INCLUDING CONGREGATIONAL
WORSHIP AND GROUP RELIGIOUS SERVICES IN THE CITY
CENTER (CC) DISTRICT OF THE DOWNTOWN SPECIFIC PLAN AT
5918 CLOVERLY AVENUE (AMIDA SOCIETY) (CUP -1311)
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TEMPLE CITY DOES HEREBY RESOLVE:
SECTION 1. Based upon testimony received at a Noticed Public Hearing on September 2, 1997
and upon information provided in the Staff Report and upon the minutes of the Planning Commission
Meetings dated July 8, 1997 and August 12,'1997 and upon information provided in the Staff Reports to
the Planning Commission dated July 8, 1997 and August 12, 1997, the City Council of the City of Temple
City does hereby resolve as follows.
SECTION 2. This project should not result in significant effects upon the environment and a
Negative Declaration has been prepared in accordance with the State CEQA Guidelines. The initial
statement as prepared indicates that there is no potential for adverse impact to the environment as it
relates to all wild animals, birds, plants, fish, amphibians and related ecological communities, including the
habitat upon which the wildlife depends for its continued viability.
SECTION 3. Conditional Use Permit 97 -1311 is approved subject all of the conditions contained
in Planning Commission Resolution No. 97 -1856, except that condition number eight (8) of said Resolution
shall be modified to read as follows:
As no Plans were submitted for review relative to building or site
modifications, any substantial interior building alterations and any
exterior building modifications or changes of the site shall be reviewed by
the granting body. Specifically, any exterior signage, banners, plaques,
statues, exterior decorations, etc. or re- painting of the existing building,
or modifications to the parking area or significant landscape alterations
shall be reviewed by the granting body.
Section 4. Accordingly, this Conditional Use Permit to allow an assembly use, including
congregational worship and services devoted to the teachings of Buddhism is hereby approved subject to
all conditions contained in Planning Commission Resolution No. 97- 1856PC as modified herein, based upon
the representation of the applicant's attorney, Mr. Steven D. Meyers, that the 100 person maximum
occupancy of the building was acceptable to the applicant.
SECTION 5. The City Clerk shall certify to passage and adoption of this resolution and enter
it into the book of original resolutions.
