RESOLUTION NO. 97 -3630
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF TEMPLE CITY SUPPORTING THE "TEMPLE
CITY AT HOME IN SPACE: A CELESTIAL
CELEBRATION" EVENT
WHEREAS, the City of Temple City and the Temple City Unified School District will co- sponsor
an event at Temple City Park on November 19, 1997, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. celebrating the scheduled
launch of the Space Shuttle Columbia on that day; and
WHEREAS, the event entitled., "Temple City At Home in Space: a Celestial Celebration" will
honor and explore Temple City's role in space and contributions to space exploration with activities,
displays, student projects, demonstrations, and some special surprises; and
WHEREAS, Temple City is the home town or residence of many space scientists and important
aerospace engineers, including Astronaut Steve Lindsey and Physicist Kent Cullers; and
WHEREAS, Astronaut Steve Lindsey, who will be piloting the Space Shuttle Columbia on
November 19, will have a Temple City flag and several other mementos from Temple City on board in the
Space Shuttle with him; and
WHEREAS, Astronaut Steve Lindsey, who is a Temple City High School graduate, will have a
special video taped message for Temple City and those in attendance at the celebration; and
WHEREAS, renowned physicist and 1967 Temple City High School graduate, Kent Cullers, who
is portrayed in the movie Contact, will make a personal appearance during the event;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Temple City
resolves that:
SECTION 1. The City of Temple City join with the Temple City Unified School District to co-
sponsor the "Temple City At Home in Space: A Celestial Celebration" event at Temple City Park on
November 19, 1997, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
SECTION 2. The City Council authorize use of Temple City Park for the event on that day and
use of the City Seal and/or Logo to promote the event in fliers and other printed materials.
PASSED, APPROVED, AND ADOPTED on this 7th day of October, 1997.

No. 97 -3630, was adopted by the City Council of the City of Temple City at a regular meeting held on the
7th day of October, 1997, by the following vote:
