HomeMy Public PortalAboutMarch 2, 2022 Regular Session Y Greencastle Board of Park Commissioners Minutes of the Regular Meeting Wednesday, March 2, 2022 Present: President Cathy Merrell, Pete Meyer, Secretary Joanna Muncie Absent: Tim Trigg, Putnam County Public Library liaison David Taylor and Greencastle Community School Corporation liaison Brittany Labhart Also Present: Banner Graphic Reporter Eric Bernsee, Assistant Director/Aquatics Director Chrysta Snellenberger, Park Maintenance Supervisor David Bault, Mayor Bill Dory, City Council Liaison Stacie Langdon, Andrew O'Hair, Alex Cox, Matt Williams Call to Order The regular meeting of the Greencastle Board of Park Commissioners was called to order on Wednesday, March 2, 2022 at 7:03 p.m. by Park Board President Cathy Merrell. Public Input— Approval of Minutes Assistant Director Chrysta Snellenberger presented minutes of the regular monthly meetings held on Wednesday, February 2, 2022. The minutes were accepted on a motion by P. Meyer with a second by J. Muncie. All Ayes. Monthly Expenditures 1. Approval of Claims & Invoices — C. Merrell asked about the charges for the fabric for the office chairs that were redone and asked if the office was done. C. Snellenberger agreed. J. Muncie asked who the Aquatic Facility Operator training was for and C. Snellenberger stated it would be for herself. After a review of the monthly claims and invoices, they were approved on a motion from J. Muncie, second by P. Meyer. The motion passed unanimously. All Ayes. Special Park Use Request 1. Andrew O'Hair and Alex Cox presented their batting cage proposal for the Greencastle Youth Softball Association. They proposed adding one structure with two cages. Each cage would be 15 ft X 60 ft. while the entire structure will be 30 ft. X 60 ft. The association agreed to mow all the fields, around the fields and weed eating around their nets. After a review P. Meyer made a motion to approve the batting cages with a second by J. Muncie. All Ayes 2. S. Langdon presented the request for First Baptist Church to hold a community pool party on June 10th from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The party will be free for the public and they will have hotdogs and chips for free. They do not need the concession stand. After a review J. Muncie made a motion to approve the batting cages with a second by P. Meyer. All Ayes 1 3. C. Snellenberger gave an update on the Putnam County Hospital Children's health fair, it was agreed upon that the party can set up at 4 p.m. and go from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The party will be free to anyone that chooses to join. After a discussion P. Meyer made a motion to accept with a second by J. Muncie. All Ayes 4. Tommy Sandefer represented Lifespring Christian Church in a request to use the band shelter and shelter number 1 for an outdoor service. They will have a live band, games for kids and food. They want the opportunity to bring communities together. After a discussion, J. Muncie made a motion to accept with a second by P. Meyer. All Ayes 5. New Business 1. Misti Scott with Gobin sent in a request to pay for the kids in the camp to have swim lessons and free admittance into the pool. C. Snellenberger stated that this was the same as it has been in the past several years and that it is a great program for kids that couldn't normally afford the lesson or pool time. After a discussion P. Meyer made a motion to accept with a second by J. Muncie. All Ayes 2. C. Snellenberger presented the contracts for the Big Walnut Sports fields. They were looked over and it became apparent that attachment A needed to be updated to state what the leagues were responsible taking care of. P. Meyer also stated that it would be a good idea to have L. Hardwick look over them to ensure everything is correct and up to date. It was agreed upon that after Laurie Hardwick gives her approval then C. Merrell will sign them so they can be given to the leagues for signatures. After a discussion, J. Muncie made a motion to accept with a second by P. Meyer. All Ayes Old Business and Special Project Updates Miscellaneous 1. C.Snellenberger gave an update from Kona Ice of Terre Haute. They have sold their small units and decided to only use the buses to come on the occasion instead of being there daily. J. Muncie insisted on having a regular schedule. Whether they are there on Fridays or Saturdays it should be the same every week. Next Regular Meeting ,The next regular meeting of the Greencastle Board of Park Commissioners will be held the first Wednesday of month on April 6, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. in Greencastle City Hall. 2 Adjournment The monthly park board meeting was adjourned at 8:26 p.m. on a motion from J. Muncie, second by P. Meyer.
