Karlson specified that the amount of property taxes that would need to be collected to pay for services in 1996 was $873,434, an increase of $101,175 over the 1995 tax levy. Some of the reasons for the higher levy that were mentioned included a reduction of state aid, less interest earnings on city funds, increasing legal fees, city hall maintenance, and salary increases. After subtracting the fiscal disparity contribution to the city, the city's net levy came out to be $850,442, an increase of ten percent. Because of a significant increase in the city's tax base, the 1996 levy resulted in a reduction of the city's tax capacity rate from 14.57% to 14.51%. Three residents were present and asked several questions related to the budget and city spending. IT WAS MOVED BY FERRIS AND SECONDED BY ZIETLOW, TO CLOSE THE PUBLIC HEARING AT 7:58 P.M. THE MOTION PASSED UNANIMOUSLY. Ann Thies announced that the council would adopt the final budget at its next regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, December 19, 1995. 2.
