Town of Leesburg Receives Excellence in Financial Reporting
Award for 31st Consecutive Year
Leesburg, VA (April 20, 2018) – The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) has
awarded a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to the Town of
Leesburg for its Fiscal Year 2017 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR). Leesburg has
received this award for thirty-one consecutive years.
The GFOA’s Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of
governmental accounting and financial reporting. Attainment of this award represents a
significant accomplishment by a government organization and its management. In order to
receive the certificate, an impartial panel judged the Town’s CAFR as meeting the high
standards of the GFOA’s program, including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full
disclosure” to clearly communicate the Town’s financial story and to motivate users to read the
CAFR.
“After getting the Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting award for 31 years, it is
tempting to think of it as expected or to take it for granted,” commented Clark Case, the Town’s
Director of Finance and Administrative Services. “It really takes a lot of hard work to win this
certificate each year. It is a real tribute to our Controller, Lisa Stillman, and the entire
accounting and management team that the town continues to perform at this level of
excellence.”
The Government Finance Officers Association is a non-profit professional association serving
over 17,600 government finance professionals throughout North America.
