HomeMy Public PortalAboutResolution 98-36601 1 1 RESOLUTION NO. 98 -3660 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TEMPLE CITY IN SUPPORT OF THE GREENFIELDS SGV PROGRAM FOR GROUNDWATER REMEDIATION IN THE SAN GABRIEL BASIN WHEREAS, the Main San Gabriel Basin has been deemed a Federal Superfund Site due to groundwater contamination; and WHEREAS, the City of Temple City recognizes the importance of groundwater cleanup in the protection of our valuable water resources; and WHEREAS, the City of Temple City recognizes and is concerned about the social and economic impacts caused by Superfund activities on local business, and jobs in the San Gabriel Valley; and WHEREAS, the San Gabriel Valley Water Quality Authority has developed the Greenfields SGV initiative to accelerate groundwater cleanup through a cooperative public /private partnership approach; and WHEREAS, alternative methods such as the Greenfields program may be more efficient than remediation under traditional processes; and WHEREAS, the City of Temple City recognizes that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the San Gabriel Basin Water Quality Authority, local businesses, water producers and other regulatory agencies are working to accomplish the groundwater cleanup. NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Temple City does hereby resolve as follows: SECTION 1. To support the business community, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the San Gabriel Basin Water Quality Authority and other in their efforts to resolve the groundwater contamination issues in a time, cost - effective and acceptable manner. SECTION 2. To work in concert with the above -named parties under the Greenfields SGV program to expedite remediation of groundwater contamination in a way that will enhance the region's economic vitality. APPROVED, AND ADOPTED on this 17th day of March 1998 MAYOR I, City Clerk of the City of Temple City, hereby certify that the foregoing resolution, Resolution No. 98- 3660, was adopted by the City Council of the City of Temple City at a regular meeting held on the 17th day of March, 1998, by the following vote: AYES: Councilman- Breazeal, Souder, Wilson, Brook, Gillanders NOES: Councilman -None ABSENT: Councilman -None
