Chad Stieferman Capt. Deric Heislen The Animal Shelter Committee met for a regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday June 20 at 12:30 p.m. in the Conference Room, Jefferson City Animal Shelter, 2308 Hyde Park Road, Jefferson City Missouri. The meeting was called to order by Dr. Boyer, Chair. Approval of Minutes Dr Boyer moved to approve the minutes from the previous meeting. Dr. Greene seconded the motion. Staff Reports Matthew Barry advised there is still one open Animal Control Officer position and one Animal Control Officer is on light duty. Dr Schaller introduced new Veterinary Assistant Samantha Henisen. Written Correspondence There was no Written Correspondence to discuss. Old Business There was no old business to discuss. New Business Dr Schaller advised the 31 cats were recently euthanized due to and outbreak of panleukopenia and that 12 of the cats Minutes Animal Shelter Advisory Committee Meeting Tuesday, June 20th 2023 were from a single source that does TNR. Lt. Stieferman suggested that if a cat is dropped off at the Shelter from a non- profit that have been examined by a Vet prior to arrival. Dr Boyer stated that they don’t check for panleukopenia. Dr. Beddoe stated best practice would be for cats to be quarantined 10 to 14 days after being dropped off and their health monitored. Matthew Barry stated this would not be realistic. Dr. Boyer advised that TNR can be a disease reservoir. Dr Greene asked if there were changes made to intake policies if they would be for everyone. Matthew Barry advised it was being looked into to be determined after further discussion. Matthew Barry advised there are two dogs at the Shelter that have been here for 190 days owned by someone who is currently incarcerated. Lt. Stieferman stated the dogs are being held due to a court ruling them to be preserved as evidence. Matthew Barry also advised that these two dogs take up 2 of the 3 isolation cages for dogs at the shelter making hard to keep sick dogs out of the general population.
