Meeting Minutes
Tuesday, September 8, 2009
10:22 A. M.
City Hall Council Chambers
CALL TO ORDER: The Women's Commission meeting for September 8, 2009. There was no
quorum at 10:15 a.m., the meeting was closed. Commissioner Real came in at 10:22 a.m. the
Women's Commission meeting was reopened.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Lead by Commissioner Araujo
ROLL CALL:
Members Present: Commissioner Olga Real
Chairperson Martina Rodriguez
Commissioner Margaret Araujo
Member Absent: Commissioner Jaime
Staff present: Jamel Goodloe, Staff Liaison and Serena Coulson-Johnson, Minutes Clerk
Certification of Agenda Posted: Agenda was duly posted.
The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Rodriguez. Chairperson Rodriguez called for a
motion to approve the June 9 minutes. Commissioned Araujo make a motion to approve the
minutes seconded by Commissioner Real.
Review of the June 30, 2009 Event:
It was stated that the event had a good turn-out. A suggestion was made to have a master
calendar made for events for the Woman's Commission and Senior Center, since both are under
Recreation.
Discussion on Women's Commission Attendance, Absenteeism, and Phone calls.
The Commissioners agreed to communicate better with staff by calling when they are not able to
attend the Women's Commission meetings. Chairperson Rodriguez apologized for not calling
staff letting them know that she would not be able to attend the July and August meetings.
A suggestion was made for staff to write a letter to the Commissioners regarding communication
problems and the rules for absenteeism.

Chairperson Rodriguez asked for a motion to have staff write a letter advising the Commissioners
that when they are going to be absent to call staff and let them know. Motioned by Commissioner
Araujo and, seconded by Commissioner Real. A suggested was made for the Commissioners to
notify Council letting them know if they will not be able to continue as a Commission, All
Commissioners agreed.
Discussion on tentative dates for September and December:
There will be no Women's Power Half Hour event in September 2009.
A Women's Power Half Hour Christmas event is scheduled for December 17, 2009.. Chairperson
Rodriguez '`asked for a motion.. Commissioner Araujo motioned to have a Christmas event on
December 17, 2009 seconded b'y Commissioner Real. '
BOARD ORALS: Commissioner Araujo asked staff to check with City Clerk regarding a new
member to take the place of Commissioner Herron. Mr. Goodlde will follow up.

PUBLIC ORALS: Mr. Goodloe 'reiterated that he will draft a letter to the Commissioners regarding
the lack of communication and the number of absenteeism's they are required to have in order to
remain on the board as a Commissioner, according to the Brown Act.
Adjournment -The Women's Commission next regularly scheduled meeting is to be held at 10:00
a.m. on Tuesday, October 13, 2Q09 in the Lynwood City Hall Council Chambers.
