Public Orals: Ofelia Sanders - I have two concerns one regarding the roster here at the Senior Center. [n working with Percy Brown on the Birthday Bash he is trying to match the names with the addresses and they are not coinciding. Some people don't have an address or their birthday date. 1 would like to see that put into another file maybe excel so it can be alphabetized because we are looking for people on the list and this make it difficult. Being a volunteer I will help staff anyway possible to get the roster together. My next 1 concern is changing the n e, not just the Lynwood Senior Center because people have a stigma. They think this is an old f lk~"h me or something. I would like to propose a name change to "Lynwood Club 55" since we have to be over to be a member here. Marisa Cordova - It has to be open to the general public, age 55 and over and the disabled. We have to make sure that the name states and it is clear that it is open to anyone interested in attending. You don't have to be a member to attend the senior center. Mercedes -Can the meeting be done at 12:30 p.m. instead of P2:00 p.m.? Chair Paulette Bradley -When we started the new revised Senior Advisory Council it was at a different time, everyone left after lunch so we moved it up to catch you at the end of your lunch while you are still here and you haven't gone home. Who wants to come back, you are already here. We tried to make it at the time you're finishing up your lunch and you could listen to any presentations that we might have. We tried to design it so we don't have to expect you to come back. Manny Perez - I want to address the name change to the center. We are all considered seniors over 60, we let people come in here at age 55 but they are not really seniors yet. We are seniors after we are 60 years of age. I don't think it's a good idea to change the name to "Lynwood Club 55". We are proud to be seniors. Lynn Stringfield - 1 am a senior too but just keep it The way it is. Why do we have to change the name? I would like to keep it the way it is. J Board Orals: Pamela Taylor - I was going through the volunteer files. I found some students that want to come in and talk about the Book Club. Can [have the date so 1 can call the students and they can come in and talk about the Club? (Marisa Cordova -Thursday. September 3, 2009, we have Elsie) D. Joyce Edner -Good Afrernoon everyone, it's good to see you here today. I hope you are getting good information from this meeting because if we give it to you as a community in volume at one time then everyone gets the same information. You don't have to come up and ask what's going on unless you really want to write the information down. So I believe it is a good thing to have the meeting open at 12:00 while everyone is still here. About the name change, I like the Lynwood Senior Center and it is open to invited guests. I agree with Ofelia Sanders in regards to the roster being alphabetized. Lorene Reed - I wanted to give special thanks to Mrs. Ofelia Sanders for the Bake Sale. She did a lot of work in coordinating and getting the clubs together. This is something we want to promote, everyone working together in the center. Fantastic job on the bake sale! Bingo is growing, we have a lot of fun, we are able to maintain the $250.00 jackpot. On an average we are paying out anywhere from $790.00 to $950.00 in our Night Bingo. We have been able to donate to the National Night Out. We are currently working on donating for Thanksgiving. We don't know in what form yet but we will be doing something to help our seniors on Thanksgiving. We are also subsidizing the Birthday Bash. It is very important for us as we are trying to have something in the evenings for seniors to come out and enjoy themselves. One is the Birthdays Bash. Hopefully people can see what's happening with the Bingo funds. The snack bar is open and Mrs. Mary Fuller is taking care of that for us. She is also catering the Birthday Bash. So we want to give a special thanks to Mrs. Mary Fuller. Chair Paulette Bradley -Thank you Lorene Reed that's very important information because I hear little snippets going around of some doubt about what is going on here in regards to the money. You have all been enjoying and seeing the fruits of our labor and cooperation in these programs. I am pleased to share with you that 1 went to the bank to deposit $827.04 from the bake sale and donations. Now having said that, let no one turn around and say you don't understand the sense of cooperation, Once you set your mind to a goal, you have proved again that you can do it. We have a long wish list. I am getting requests for a Karaoke Machine, we have a dance floor on the way. As far as changing the name of the center, 1 would like something else. You all have to be aware how instrumental your Bingo Club really is in this Facility. We are drawing in new members from other cities that go to centers that do not offer what we do. We are headed in the right direction. Adjournment: Member Barbara Battle made a motion to adjourn, 2"d by Member Lorene Reed. By unanimous consent the meeting adjourned at 12:41 p.m. 3
