Public Art Advisory Panel Members Sought in Leesburg
Leesburg Commission on Public Art is recruiting volunteers to review artist
submissions for public art projects.
Leesburg, VA (June 14, 2018) – The Leesburg Commission on Public Art (COPA) is seeking
additional volunteers to serve on its art advisory panel.
Established by the Town Council in 2006, COPA advises the Town Council on policies that will
strengthen the arts, sponsors public art activities and installations, and advocates on behalf of
the arts in Leesburg.
As part of the installation process for public art projects, COPA created an art advisory panel
comprised of local architects, engineers, artists, and art enthusiasts. Panel members review
submissions from calls to artists for public art projects, providing structural, logistic , and
aesthetic advice to COPA. For each project, COPA chooses three to four panel members based
on the type of art and members’ expertise, assembling a project-specific review team from the
larger art advisory panel. There are currently 13 members on the art advisory panel. COPA is
seeking an additional seven members to assist in reviewing upcoming projects. Members serve
two year terms.
The time commitment for serving on the art advisory panel is approximately three to four hours
for each project review. Panel members do not have to be residents of Leesburg, but should be
familiar with the town and its public art programs. If interested in serving on the art advisory
panel, please send your resume to Anne Geiger, COPA Staff Liaison, at ageiger@leesburgva.gov.
Application deadline is July 6, 2018.
