Leesburg Transportation Projects Receive $32.4 Million in
Funding from Northern Virginia Transportation Authority
Funding includes $25 million for construction of new interchange at Route 7 and
Battlefield Parkway.
Leesburg, VA (June 15, 2018) – Last night, the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority
(NVTA) adopted its first six-year transportation program that includes $1.285 billion in funding
for 44 regional projects. The Town of Leesburg received $32.4 million for three grade-separated
interchange projects in town.
The three Leesburg projects and amounts of funding are:
Route 15 Bypass/Battlefield Parkway Interchange - $2 million for an Interchange
Justification Report
Route 15 Bypass/Edwards Ferry Road/Fort Evans Road Interchange - $5.4 million in
interchange design funding
Route 7/Battlefield Parkway Interchange - $25 million in construction funding
The $25 million for the Route 7/Battlefield
Parkway interchange, along with $4.6
million in revenue sharing funds from
VDOT that is expected to be approved by
the Commonwealth Transportation Board
on June 20, completes the construction
funding for the project. With all funding in
place, VDOT will issue the Design/Build
Request for Proposals later this month.
Construction is expected to begin in
summer 2019 and be completed in fall
2021.
“We are very pleased the NVTA has provided the necessary funding to build the Route 7 and
Battlefield interchange,” said Leesburg Mayor Kelly Burk. “The completion of that interchange
will benefit not just Leesburg residents, but also the many commuters who pass through
Leesburg on a daily basis.”
