11th Annual Patriot Cup Awarded to Beckley-Neher Family
The float was inspired by the patriotic song “America the Beautiful” and the
family’s love of boating.
Leesburg, VA (July 11, 2018) – The 28th annual Independence Day parade featured more than
65 entries this year. Members of the Leesburg Daybreak Rotary Club judged the Beckley-Neher
family’s float, “Sea to Shining Sea”, as Best in Show. As first year parade participants, the
Leesburg family was thrilled to win. They were awarded the 11th annual Patriot Cup following
the parade.
“We truly love everything about living here, and we thought the parade was a fun way to be
part of the community,” said Jean Ann Beckley, adding that the parade coincid ed with their
recurring summer reunion with the Neher family from Boulder, Colorado.
Inspired by the patriotic song “America the Beautiful,” the float was a nod to the many places
the family has lived and celebrated Independence Day over the past 25 years.
“Paired with our love of boating, it was a natural theme with ‘all hands on deck’ to put it
together,” Beckley said.
Mayor Kelly Burk presented the trophy to the Beckley-Neher family, which will be engraved
with their names and placed on display at the Leesburg Town Hall. The family will be presented
with a certificate of recognition during the August 14 Town Council meeting. The Patriot Cup
competition is sponsored by Loudoun Now newspaper.
