Town of Leesburg Promotes Michael Watkins to Zoning
Administrator
Leesburg, VA (August 2, 2018) – The Town of Leesburg
recently promoted Michael Watkins to the position of
Zoning Administrator. In his new role, he will review
and interpret the Town’s zoning ordinance and related
regulations; work with residents, businesses, and the
development community to understand community
needs regarding zoning regulations; and prepare
amendments to the zoning regulations as necessary to
keep the Town’s ordinances reflective of community
needs and zoning best practices.
Watkins joined the Town of Leesburg in July 2008 as a
Senior Planner, reviewing special exception and
rezoning applications. In August 2016, he became the
Assistant Zoning Administrator and supervised the
Town’s zoning enforcement activities. Prior to joining
the Town of Leesburg, Watkins worked for a number of private engineering firms, performing
survey field work, deed research, topographic and boundary survey preparation, subdivision
design, site analysis, and project management. Watkins holds a bachelor’s degree in Geography
with a concentration in Urban and Regional Planning from Frostburg State University and is a
Certified Zoning Administrator.
