Expanded Playground at Greenway Park Reopens
Playground features the first cargo net climber in Leesburg.
Leesburg, VA (August 3, 2018) –
This morning, Mayor Kelly Burk was
assisted by a group of young
Leesburg residents and their
parents in a ribbon cutting
ceremony to celebrate the newly
expanded and improved
playground at Greenway Park.
Following the ceremony, attendees
were treated to ice pops.
“This new playground is part of
Leesburg’s commitment to make
continued investments in our
community,” said Mayor Burk. “Playgrounds serve as gathering spots, where our
neighborhoods come together.”
Designed by Playground Specialists, Inc., the Greenway Park playground features two play
areas, one for ages 2 to 4 and the other for ages 5 to 12. New components to the playground
include climbers, climbing walls and nets from Playground Specialists’ Adventure Series, a
swivel seat, ground-level musical and play panels, and an imagination play area. The most
unique addition is the cargo net climber, the first of its kind in Leesburg and clearly the favorite
feature among the children at the ribbon cutting.
“Since the foundations of the play structures were in good shape, we choose to expand the play
areas in order to get more play components onsite, as well as replace a few worn-out slides and
bridges,” explained Kate Trask, Leesburg’s Deputy Director of Parks and Recreation. “We’re
excited to bring more play opportunities to the community that provide children the chance to
challenge themselves, build friendships, and enjoy the outdoors.”
