CITY COUNCIL MEETING OCT. 9, 2002 AT 6:30 P.M. AT THE IONA
COMMUNITY CENTER
PRESENT: Mayor, Craig Rockwood, Council members, Brad Andersen, Mike Klingler,
Dave Huntsman, Scott Long, Treasurer, Ron Nelson, Clerk, Betty McKinlay
VISITORS: Scott Shipton, Taylor Roberts, Kenyon and Jacob Shipton, Jason Latimore,
Susan and Jacob Stucki
Mayor Rockwood called the meeting to order and welcomed everyone. The pledge was
lead by Taylor Roberts.
The previous minutes from Council meeting were approved. Council member Mike
Klingler motioned to approve and Council member Scott Long seconded. All were in
favor.
The bills were ratified. Council member Dave Huntsman motioned to approve the bills
and Council member Brad Andersen seconded. All were in favor.
The Financial Report was viewed. Mayor Rockwood explained the budget to the Scout
Troop that was in attendance at our meeting.
Mayor Rockwood discussed with the Council the changes in the codebook on the Water
Ordinance. Council member Brad Andersen motioned to approve the ordinance to
change the water cord. Council member Dave Huntsman seconded. All were in favor.
Mayor Rockwood discussed the proposal that Forsgren wants to do on the low spot on
Main Street. The Council would like to see some drawings on the proposal. Mayor
Rockwood explained the calculation for change order #3 on the Main Street Project. The
change order was discussed by the Council. Council member Dave Huntsman motioned
to approve the change order #3. Council member Scott Long seconded. All were in
favor.
Mayor Rockwood mentioned the request from a citizen, for a non-commercial kennel
license. The Code says an interview is required from each citizen that is within 300 ft. to
see if they have any objections. Mayor Rockwood will have Ross contact those people
and get a statement.
The Council considered the request for two flashing school lights, one on the West end
and the other on the East end of Owens Street. The County will pay for them and the
City will pay for the power. The Council agreed.
Council member Scott Long explained the Fire District letter that was sent. He will draft
a letter back to the Fire District.
The alley behind Earl Louk was discussed. Mayor Rockwood will get the Quit Claim
Deeds ready.
Council member Dave Huntsman reported on the ADA (American Disabilites Act) and
what his committee is doing. Those on the Committee are: Lynn Morgan, JanaLee
Thomas and Kathy Demott. Council member Mike Klingler asked if he could use the
same members for his Fair Housing Committee since they are similar committees.
Council member Scott Long asked about short term parking on Main St. and striping it.
Mayor Rockwood said we want to seal coat the roads next Spring and would do the
striping then. Permanent parking on Main St. was discussed.
Meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
