Friends of the Thomas Balch Library to Hold Annual Meeting
on Sunday, January 13, 2019
Meeting program will include oral history interview with Dr. James P. Lucier.
Leesburg, VA (December 28, 2018) – The Friends of the Thomas Balch Library will hold their
24th annual meeting on Sunday, January 13, 2019, in the downstairs meeting room of the library
at 2:00 p.m.
The meeting program will be “Oral History Series: Interview with Jim Lucier.” Foreign policy
specialist, historian and journalist Dr. James P. Lucier served on the staff of the U.S. Senate for
more than 25 years, including five years as the staff director of the Senate Foreign Relations
Commission. A Leesburg resident since 1967, Lucier is the author of The Political Writings of
James Monroe, published in 2001, and is a 2012 Loudoun History Award recipient. He served on
the Thomas Balch Library Advisory Commission from 1994 to 2004 and was instrumental in the
renovation and expansion of the library in 2003. He has served on the Friends of the Thomas
Balch Library board since 2006 and is a former chair of the Friends’ editorial board.
Following the program, members of the Friends of the Thomas Balch Library will elect the 2019
board of directors. The Thomas Balch Library is located at 208 West Market Street, Leesburg.
