Dear Mayor Vandernail,
The citizens of Grand County recently voted to approve a .3% Open Lands, Rivers and
Trails sales tax on November 8th 2016. As you recall from the recent ballot on Referred
Measure 1-A, the funds resulting from this tax may be used for keeping waters .in the rivers for
agriculture, ranching and outdoor recreation; protection, conservation and acquisition of
agricultural lands, natural areas, scenic open land, wildlife habitats, wetlands and river access;
and maintenance of hiking and biking trails.
Following this approval, the Board of County Commissioners will appoint an Open
Lands Advisory Committee (OLAC) prior to February 6th, 2017, due to the 90 day deadline post-
election. This committee will consist of nine members, three of whom shall be residents of
unincorporated Grand County (one from each commissioner district) and one person who shall
be nominated by the governing body of his/her respective municipality in the County. The
composition of the Open Lands Fund Advisory Committee ideally should have equitable
representation from the agricultural, land conservation, outdoor recreation, water, business and
economic development activities.
Each municipality is requested to send the names and qualifications of two or three
nominees to the Grand County Board of County Commissioners. Nominations should be
received by Grand County on January 9th, 2016 no later than 10:00 a.m. Upon receipt of all
nominees throughout Grand County, the BOCC will appoint the Open Lands Advisory
Committee prior to February 611, 2017.
