HomeMy Public PortalAboutMarch 3 2021 minutes with linksWatertown Free Public Library TRUSTEES MEETING Minutes Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at 7pm Pursuant to Governor Baker's March 12, 2020 Order Suspending Certain Provisions of the Open Meeting Law, G.L. c. 30A, §18, and the Governor's March 15, 2020 Order imposing strict limitations on the number of people that may gather in one place, this public hearing of the Watertown Free Public Library Board of Trustees is being conducted via remote participation. No in -person attendance of members of the public will be permitted, but the public can listen to or view this meeting while in progress via Zoom meeting ID 816 4998 3747 Password 127706. Members of the public may access the meeting through this link https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81649983 747?pwd=Q0Y2OF1YNm93 VTAzY3ZvZm5BLz1NQT09 or by dialing in at 929 205 6099 and entering the meeting ID and password. Members of the public attending this meeting virtually will be allowed to make comments if they wish to do so, during the portion of the hearing designated for public comment, by audio. AGENDA Present: WFPL Trustees: Leanne Hammonds, Chair, Michael Hanlon, Treasurer, Teddy Kokoros, Secretary, Daniel Pritchard, Emily Izzo, Sheppard Ferguson (Vice Chair), WFPL Director Leone Cole, WFPL Assistant Director Caitlin Browne Call to Order: 7:04 pm Election of Officers A motion was made and unanimously passed for the current slate of officers to be reelected to their respective positions. Chair: Leanne Hammonds Vice Chair: Sheppard Ferguson Treasurer: Michael Hanlon, Secretary: Teddy Kokoros Secretary's Report Minutes of February 3, 2021 Meeting A motion was made and unanimously passed by the trustee to accept the minutes as amended Public Forum: No Update Red Leaf Cafe Update: No Update Financial Report FY21 Budget: Treasurer Hanlon reported that 8 months have passed this fiscal year. The Watertown Library has spent 62 percent of its total budget for the fiscal year. Director Cole reported they are recruiting to hire a custodian and that they have hired a part time reference librarian. Director Cole also reported The Watertown Library recently got their first state aid payment and expects to get another in late Spring. Burke Fund Report: As for Feb 26, there is a balance of $6,965 Hatch Financials: No updates to report Consideration and Action on Acceptance of Donations: A motion was made and unanimously passed to accept this month's donations to the library. A motion was made to and unanimously passed by the trustees to accept the Financial Report as read Chair's Report Vaccine Letter: Chair Hammonds drafted a letter to Marylou Sudders who serves as Secretary of Health and Human Services for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts requesting that library employees become eligible to receive the vaccine during Phase 2 of The Covid-19 vaccine roll out. Assistant Director Browne suggested mentioning in the letter that the Watertown Library librarians have been working since last summer. Trustee Pritchard said that the letter could also include the fact that the demand for Watertown Library services has been high during the pandemic. A motion was made and unanimously passed to approve the Vaccine Letter as amended Director's Report Consideration and Action on Cafe Vendor Request for Proposals • A motion was made and unanimously passed to approve sending out the Cafe Vendor Request for Proposals (The Cafe Vendor RfP is included in this month's Trustee's Packet) Bookmobile Fundraising • Bob Collini has committed $100,000 to the cost of the Bookmobile • Director Cole suggested The Trustees attempt to raise $75,000 to cover the rest of the cost of the vehicle. • Trustees Pritchard and Kokoros volunteered to form a two -person committee to lead fundraising for the Bookmobile. Reopening Updates: • Director Cole stated that she wanted to have the library open back to normal 9-5 hours on Saturday. In addition, Director Cole wants to make 2 computers available by 1 -hour appointments. Various Updates: Two Library staff have tested positive for COVID-19 but in both cases the staff members contracted the virus at their home The 6 Dr. Seuss books that were recently stopped being published have been taken off the shelves. This was done partly because there are currently many people who have been trying to get their hands on these books and or stealing them to sell them on eBay or other online websites.
