I. CALL TO ORDER: The meeting for November z4, zoo8 was called to
order at s:oo p.m.
II. INVOCATION: There was no Invocation.
III. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: The Pledge of Allegiance was not recited.

V. AGENDA POSTING: The agenda was duly posted by the City Clerk
for the November zoo8 meeting.
VI. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The October minutes were not approved
due to a lack of a quorum.
VII. SCHEDULED MATTERS:
A. Review of Veterans Day Program - Ms. Rozie Carrillo, Recreation
Superintendent II commented that Chairperson Wood remarked that she
did a great job with the Veterans Day Program. She would have liked to
have seen more people come out for the event. Ms. Carrillo stated that
she learned a lot and is excited about next year's program. Chairperson
Wood remarked that street banners usually draw people to events. Ms.
Carrillo will arrange to have someone sponsor banners next year.
Chairperson Wood has a friend that can make a street banner for
approximately ~zso to X300. Ms. Carrillo informed the Board Members
that the wood for the crosses was donated by Jones Lumber, the crosses
were made free of charge by Lynwood High School. Woodshop students,
the wreath was purchased from the Magic Rose and the food was
purchased by the City of Lynwood. The program came in under budget.
Chairperson Wood stated that he was not happy with the person from
post #7z3. Ms. Carrillo suggested using the VFW Honor Guard next
year. Chairperson Wood stated that the R.O.T.C. program has started up
again in the middle schools.

IX. BOARD MEMBER ORALS:
- FORD -Absent
- WOOD -Chairperson Wood wishes everyone a nice Thanksgiving
holiday and hopes to see everyone at the Christmas Parade. Ms.
Carrillo says she hopes to see everyone at the Tree Lighting
Ceremony on iz/4. Chairperson Wood also mentions T-Ball on iz/i,
Baseball on iz/6 & iz/7 and Softball on iz/i3 & iz/i4. Toys will be
collected at these events and donated to the Community Services Day
program.
- PEREZ -Absent
- CALDERON -Board Member Calderon spoke about the on-going
water study at Camp I:ejeune in San Diego. You can Google this
online and get updated information on the status of the drinking
water. Allegedly the water at Camp Lejeune is not safe for drinking
and many children are being diagnosed with diseases such as Cerebral
Palsy.
- MENDOZA -Absent
- WILLIAMS -Absent
- BEIMER -Board Member Beimer stated that he was sick and unable
to attend the Veterans Day Program. He heard it was an excellent
event.
- BATTLE -Absent
X. ADJOURNMENT -The Veterans Affairs Council will adjourn for
the holidays. The next regularly scheduled meeting will be held at
S:oo p.m. on Monday, January z6, 2009 in the Lynwood City Hall
Council Chambers.
