PRESENT: Mayor Craig Rockwood, Council members Susan Barnes, Cliff Long, Brad
Andersen, Clerk Betty McKinlay
VISITORS: Steve, Wayne, and Barbara Heaton, Jean Koepplin, Roger Greaves from
Forsgren Engineering, Beck & Gary Styhl, Terry Butikofer from East Central Idaho
Planning and Development, Glen Longhurst, Noel Grant, Neil & Chris Grover, Kathryn
Browning, Loana Anderson, Roxanne Christensen, Ross Johnson, Ted Hendricks from
East Central Idaho Planning and Development.
Mayor Rockwood welcomed everyone and called the meeting to order.
The Public Hearing is held for the purpose of notifying people of the intention of
beautifying and cleaning up two blocks on Main Street here in Iona. The only way we
can do this is through a grant. Mayor Rockwood discussed the grants we have been
successful in getting over the years.
The number 1 goal is to clean up our storm drain problem, and the number 2 goal is to
beautify our town with a walking path, trees etc.
Terry Butikofer from ECIPDA discussed the budget. The application needs to be
submitted by Nov. 17`h. It is for $170,000 and the City would leverage with $40,000 of
City funds. If the grant is approved work will begin in July.
Roger Greaves from Forsgren Engineering explained the possibilities or ideas of what
can be done, and showed pictures of what the beautification would be like. The citizens
asked questions. Their comments were "Let's do it!" The question was asked if the
utilities could be put underground. Terry will check into that. Roxanne Christensen
commented on how much she likes Iona and the people, and she would live here if she
could. They own the apartments on Main Street. She thought the beautification would
help Iona.
Mayor Rockwood discussed the communication tower and that the Council will work on
an Ordinance.
Mayor Rockwood laid out maps and some other improvement plans on the table for
citizens to view.
Public Hearing closed at 7:25.

Dear Iona Resident:
Phone: (208) 523-5600
Later this fall the City plans to apply to the State for an Idaho Community
Development Block Grant. If successful the grant funds will be used to improve the
storm water drainage and to beautify the two blocks of Main Street from the Six Twelve
Store north to the Stanger Memorial Building. This project will greatly enhance the
beauty of our downtown area.
We will hold a public meeting on Wednesday, November 1st, at 6:30PM at the
Community Center to discuss the proposed project.
As a resident of Iona we encourage you to attend this meeting. Your support and
positive input will be an important factor to the success of this proposed project.
Sincerely yours,
The Mayor and City Council
