SUMMARY STATEMENT:
New legislation went into effect on January 1, 2011 that establishes counties as the officials for all elections. Idaho Code §34-1205 and §34-1206 state that the county board of commissioners
shall be the county board of canvassers and the county clerk shall serve as their secretary for this purpose; and the board shall examine and make a statement of the total number of
votes cast for all candidates or special questions that shall have been voted upon at the election. Attached is the Valley County Board of Commissioners canvass results of the May 18,
2018 Special Election for Local Option Tax.
Idaho Code §50-1046 requires that a 60 percent majority of voters approve a local option non-property tax measure.
The results of the May 15, 2018 Special Election for Local Option Tax are as follows:
656 Total Number of Ballots Cast 511 In Favor (77.90%) 90 Against (13.72%)
Also attached is Resolution 18-11 which ratifies the County Commissioners canvass of the May 15, 2018 Special Election.
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution 18-11 ratifying the Valley County Commissioners canvass of the May 15, 2018 Special Election for Local Option Tax and authorize the Mayor to sign all necessary documents.
