A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD
AUTHORIZING THE RELEASE OF THE REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS (RFP)
SEEKING BIDS FOR CELL`ULAR=PHONE AND WIRELESS DATA SERVICES
WHEREAS, the City currently has 124 cellular phones and. 9 data cards used by
ten City departments; and
WHEREAS, in 2006, cellular phone budgets were removed from all departments
and reallocated to the Information Technology fund for the FY 2006-07 b_ udget to
analyze usage, consolidate service lines, and pool minutes to save costs; and. ~ ._
WHEREAS, the objective of this item is to consolidate all 124. Gehl phones and
wireless data services-to one service provider whereby the City would utilize a large
pool of minutes to ultimately reduce the total cost of these services to the City; and
WHEREAS, .the projected cost for FY 2009-10 is $63,058 and the operating
budget for FY 2009-10 has been reduced to $55,000; and
WHEREAS, upon preliminary research, staff estimates that cell ,phone costs can
be reduced by another 20% by complete consolidation of services, pooling minutes, and
canceling unnecessary lines;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD DOES
HEREBY RESOLVE AND DETERMINE AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. That the City Council of the City. of Lynwood approves and
authorizes the release of the request for proposal for cellular phone and wireless data
services. y
Section 2. This resolution shall go into effect immediately upon its adoption.
