IONA COMMUNITY CENTER
A NEW LOOK
In addition to the improvements that
have been made to the inside of the
Community Center, the exterior steps
and walkways needed to be replaced.
Because we were successful in win-
ning a grant for $25,000.00 from the
CHC Foundation, we were able to be-
gin this improvement. This project not
only replaced the cracked and crum-
bling cement that was installed in
1929, but provides an attractive and
safe entrance to the Community Cen-
ter. We will also be able to beautify
the entrance by improving the land-
scaping as part of the project. The
cracked and crumbling cement was
allowing water to drain along the foun-
dation, and leaking inside the building.
By correcting this, we hope to pre-
serve our Community Center and the
improvements which have already
been made to our historic building.
We also plan to make this improve -

A MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR
CRAIG ROCKWOOD
What better place could there be
to raise our families than Iona?
More than 115 years ago lona's
first settlers realized that with
hard work, sacrifice, and dedica-
tion, Iona could be an ideal place
to work out a living and raise
their families.
We are blessed to be able to call
Iona our home, to raise our fami-
lies under such favorable condi-
tions, and to associate with such
good friends and neighbors.
Iona will continue to be a special
community if we, as our forefa-
thers before, will work hard, sac-
rifice, and dedicate our lives to
make living in Iona even better.
Whether we like it or not, Iona
will continue to grow as more
and more people look to Iona as
a place to raise their families. As
a community we must look for-
ward and plan and prepare for
new growth. We welcome our
new neighbors and ask only that
they work hard to make this their
home and respect this community
for what it is.
I would ask all of our citizens to
get involved in and support com-
munity events, to attend City
meetings, to support our local
businesses, and to clean up your
yards and homes.
As Mayor it is my goal to lead and
prepare our community for the
next century. By remembering
the sacrifices and ideals of those
who came before we can continue
to build a community that we can
all be proud to call HOME.
ANIMAL CONTROL
With the summer season,
animal control complaints
run high. Dog licenses are
required and may be pur-
chased at the City Office.
Barking dogs which cause a
disturbance and allowing
dogs to run at large are viola-
tions of the City's Animal
Control Ordinance. To report
complaints call the City's
Animal Control Officer, Kelly
Walker at 345-xxxx or the
Bonneville County Sheriffs
Office.

IONA' S WATER SYSTEM
The Lifeblood of our Community
Preserving our water system
and keeping our water clean
and pure is the City's number
one priority. We are so fortu-
nate to have an abundance of
one of nature's most important
natural resources. It is easy to
turn on the tap and get a cold
drink of water or open the hose
and water the lawn. Most peo-
ple take our water system for
granted without realizing how
fragile the system is. Continual
testing is required to ensure
our water is safe to drink. Our
wells and distribution lines re-
quire continual and costly
maintenance. Someone could
contaminate our water without
even knowing it by creating an
illegal "Cross Connection".
This could result in contami-
nated water being siphoned
back into the main water sys-
tem. The most common cause
of improper cross connections
are sprinkler systems and out-
side water taps that have not
been installed correctly or have
a faulty "Backflow Prevention
Device". You are required to
get a permit from the State
Plumbing Inspector before in-
stalling a sprinkler system and
you should have your system's
Backflow Prevention Device in-
spected annually by a qualified
inspector. For more information
contact the City Office at 523-
5600. PLEASE CONSERVE OUR
CITY'S WATER! Most water
waste is by the over -watering of
lawns and gardens. People
over- watering may be cited!
