RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GREENCASTLE
HONORING MAYOR GERALD E. WARREN
WHEREAS, Gerald E. Warren devoted the past fifteen years to
serving the City of Greencastle as Councilman from the Second Ward,
1976-1979, as Mayor, 1984-1987, and as valued advisor until his
death on December 6, 1990; and
WHEREAS, he guided the City of Greencastle from a period when
the job of mayor was a part-time interest to the present, when it
is an intensely demanding, full-time occupation; and
WHEREAS, he calmly accepted the potentially devastating news
that the City of Greencastle's largest employer was leaving and
simultaneously laid the groundwork for its remarkable economic
recovery; and
WHEREAS, he provided the vision for public works such as the
Southern Highway, which will benefit both present residents and
future generations;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the
City of Greencastle that we offer our deepest sympathy to his
family, friends, and everyone in the community who shares his loss.
As the English poet John Donne noted: "No man is an island, entire
of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the
main. If a clod be washed by the sea, Europe is the less. " With
the passing of Gerry Warren, Greencastle is the less. We will miss
him.
