PRESENT: Mayor -Craig Rockwood, Council members -Dee Johnson, Dave Huntsman, Susan Barnes, and Brad Andersen. A motion was made by Council member Dave Huntsman to approve a resolution calling for a special city election to ask voters to aprove a property tax levy increase, to be held on Nov. 3, 1998 at the Community Center. The motion was seconded by Susan Barnes. All Council members voted in favor of approving the resolution. A brief discussion followed about the best way to notify the citizens of Iona about the election and its purpose. If approved by the voters the City's levy rate would be increased to .004 from its current level of approximately .0013. A special meeting will be scheduled to discuss the election with voters. It will be mentioned on the October water bill and a special notice will be mailed out to registered voters. The meeting adjourned at approximately 8:00 p.m. RESOLUTION NO. gp_ A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING A SPECIAL CITY ELECTION TO BE HELD ON NOVEMBER 3, 1998; DESIGNATING THE POLLING PLACE AND ESTABLISHING ONE CITY-WIDE ELECTION PRECINCT; DESIGNATING THE REGISTRAR AND DEPUTY REGISTRARS, AND ORDERING THE CITY CLERK TO GIVE NOTICE OF SUCH ELECTION. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF IONA, IDAHO, THAT: SECTION 1. A special city election will be held in and for the City of Iona, Idaho, on the 3rd day of November, 1998, for the purpose of considering the following proposition: Shall the City be allowed to increase its budget for the 1999/2000 budget year, by an amount not to exceed the difference between .004 and the amount of the levy for the 1998/99 budget year, multiplied by the market value of assessable property in such year? SECTION 2. The election precinct or precincts shall be as designated by Bonneville County, pursuant to the provisions of Title 34, Idaho Code and the polling place for such election shall be the Iona City Building, 3548 North Main, Iona, Idaho. SECTION 3. The County Clerk shall be the registrar for such special election and shall conduct voter registration in accordance with the provisions of Idaho Code Section 34- 1402. SECTION 4. The City Clerk shall give public notice of the time and place of holding such special city election by posting such notice in three public places or publishing es such notice in at least two issues of the Post Register, a newspaper published in the City of fi Iona, Idaho, the first publication of such notice to be made not less than 45 days previous to the date of such city election and the last publication not less than 15 days prior to the election. The notice so published shall state the polling place in each precinct and the hours during which the polls shall be open for the purpose of voting and shall contain such information as is required under Section 50-436 of the Idaho Code.
