Minutes of monthly meeting-September 7, 2022
Call to order by Cathy Merrell (CM) at 7:00pm
In attendance: Cathy Merrell, President,Tim Trigg,Vice-president,Joanna Muncie, Secretary
Absent: Pete Meyer
Also in attendance: Sara Campfield,Julie Carr, Boyd Ensley,Jim Ensley, Mayor Dory, David Bault, Stacie

Special Park Request(s):
Sara Campfield:Two years ago SC came forward with a proposal for a Story Walk. Her board had
approved signage; she is requesting permission to actually moved forward. SC and Director Greg Ruark
(GKR) will determine location and inform the Board.
Twenty signs are utilized to tell a storybook. Distance between signs is determined by the story.
Preferred location: near Deer Meadow Elementary
After discussion, the Board determined there was no need to re-approve.
Julie Carr: Announced the desire to construct a new shelter near the basketball court in Big Walnut
Sports Park(SP). Julie,the Pingleton Family, myself, Dave B., met to discuss the construction of a shelter
between BB court and pollinator garden. Could be a "Taj Mahal" type shelter...a larger than normal
structure, metal roof, enclosed three sides to help w/weather.The Pingleton Family is working with
local contractors to assist in the project.Julie will return with design options. Haleigh Menendez, a
Bonner Scholar and contributor to the sand volleyball court at SP, mentioned a possible mural on the
new shelter.Julie was hoping/planning to create additional signage to signify the area, perhaps with a
large rock.
FYI...the replacement basketball backward has been ordered. Shipping next week.
Boyd Ensley- Eagle Scout project. Wants to create an activity walk, perhaps painting on the Peoples
Pathway; games such as Shoots and Ladders, Twister are options. Area desired is in the clearing near
Deer Meadow Elementary. GKR and Boyd will meet to discuss the area specifically. TT"Sounds like a fun
project." Perhaps connecting Deer Meadow and TZ school could be an option.
CM provided a motion to approve the project; 2"d by JM. Pass 3-0
New business: JM - MHA walk at SP. Would like to use CC route used for GHS/GMS used.The event is
Saturday, November 5, at 11AM Registration is$20 before November 5; $25 the day of event. Motion
by CM to approve the event, 2"d by TT. Pass 3-0
Old business: Robe Ann phase one is about to start- Mayor Dory indicated project is to start shortly.
Equipment to be placed near AC within the next week or so.
Park House update—Common Council (CC) did not approve the renovation. GKR moved to a new
apartment 2:17 secs. away. GKR wants to demo asap. GKR assumption was house was to be removed
now that the renovation had been called off. CM wants to ensure there is no historical significance to
the building prior to any action being taken. Mayor echoed the idea of checking the historical
significance, if any.
Director's Report:
• Softball started tonight, nine teams,as opposed to 8 in the summer.
16 game schedule, hopefully with cooperation from the weather. Captains have requested a double
elimination tournament.
• Proposal on cameras in the park.
• Skatepark was tagged Monday night- men's bathroom was tagged last night. Cameras did not
capture enough information to bring someone in.
• Bonner Scholars- HM is here.VP for Community Relations w/ DPU student govt. She would like
to get programming going with parks and DPU.
• Zoe Knight, with 91.5, is a sophomore at DPU. Michaela Troutman also working with us as a
Bonner Scholar. Wants to work with parks and create programming in the Nature Park.
• Bonner Scholars and first year students assisted with clean up near AC and tennis courts.
• Proposals and discussion on meetings frequency,time we meet, location.Will discuss at Oct.
meeting.
• CM - pump issue/filtration issue update at October meeting...?
Mayor: CC will hold budget meeting and plans to pass 2023 budget and 2023 salary ordinance. Within
the budget, lifeguard wages increased.There is a new position for top of slides attendants-employee
doesn't have to be a guard. Concessions/admissions can work those jobs, if necessary. Will have a
Lifeguard in training position to ensure we have two guards on site. WSI will get a higher wage and
receive a bonus at the end of the season.They must teach 15/20 opps to qualify.
Plan is to have SPARK program ass't. director in the event it's necessary.

AC filter status: Common Council built in reserve for filter replacements.
RDC to start the NL Trails project. Civil Eng.firm has been hired on final design. DNR said to move
forward. Contacting property owners, initial design work.
Discussion on possible use of DPU students during the summer- perhaps SPARK or life guard opps.
