RESOLUTION 1999-
A RESOLUTION RENAMING 1ST STREET "PERCY L. JULIAN DRIVE"

WHEREAS, Percy L. Julian was a resident of Greencastle, Indiana and a graduate of
Depauw University.
WHEREAS, Percy L. Julian was a renowned scientist. His research made possible the
quantity production of testosterone and progesterone from soybeans. Dr. Julian's research
produced a new and affordable way to manufacture hydrocortisone.
WHEREAS, Percy L. Julian has received awards and recognition around the United
States, including the Chemical Pioneer Award,American Institute of Chemists,Atlanta. Two
issues of the Percy L. Julian commemorative stamp issued by the United States Postal Service.
WHEREAS, the City of Greencastle should recognize those in the community who have
achieved such honors.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of
Greencastle that in honor of Percy L. Julian, that 1st Street be formally renamed to read as
"Percy L. Julian Drive".
PASSED AND RESOLVED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GREENCASTLE THIS 9TH DAY OF FEBRUARY, 1999.
