A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING FUNDING FOR PEOPLE PATHWAYS PROJECT-
PHASE 3 WITH MATCHING FUNDING FROM RECREATIONAL
TRAILS PROGRAM GRANT
WHEREAS People Pathways is a group organized to implement a
system of transportation paths, such paths being primarily
intended for walkers, joggers and cyclists;
WHEREAS People Pathways benefits the Greencastle community
by providing paths which promote public safety by affording
citizens an avenue for safe recreational activities; and
WHEREAS, numerous community organizations have shown support
for People Pathways; and
,*"" WHEREAS, People Pathways is applying for a grant from the
Recreational Trails Program, which is managed by the U. S .
Department of Transportation and administered through the
Department of Natural Resources, for financial assistance to
build and maintain Phase 3 of the People Pathways program;
WHEREAS, Phase 3 of the People Pathways program begins at
Tzouanakis Elementary School, includes construction of a pathway
along certain portions of Albin Pond Road, and connects to
Kirkwood Lane, Brentfield Lane and Deerfield Estates; and
WHEREAS, the Indiana Recreational Trails Program Grant will
provide 80% matching reimbursement assistance for eligible
projects for a maximum of $100, 000 . 00; and
WHEREAS, in order to be considered for, and receive said
grant, People Pathways must provide 20% of the total project
costs, up to $25, 000 . 00 .
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY OF GREENCASTLE
authorize payment to the People Pathways Program of 20% of the
total project costs, not to exceed $25, 000 . 00, for the
construction of Phase 3 of the People Pathways program. Any such
payment shall be contingent upon obtaining a Recreational Trails
Program Grant, and no payment shall be made if said grant is not
,-N obtained by December 31, 1999 .
