HomeMy Public PortalAbout1974-027Village of Medina Hamel, Minnesota 55340 RESOLUTION NO. 744`2? , CONCERNING INSTALLATION OF CENTRAL SEWERS IN THE INDEPENDENCE BEACH AREA WHEREAS Lake Independence constitutes a metropolitan resource and receives more than 200,000 visitors each summer; and WHEREAS the Independence Beach subdivision on the shore of Lake Independence consists largely of year -around homes constructed on small lots platted out in the 1920s; and WHEREAS soils in the Independence Beach are not generally ade- quate for on -site sewage disposal systems; and WHEREAS a potentially serious public health hazard has resulted; and WHEREAS installation of central sanitary sewer systems is urged in the City of Medina comprehensive sewer plan and by staff members of the Metropolitan Sewer Board and the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency in the Independence Beach area, with the waste to be piped to the Maple Plain sewer plant; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Medina hereby instructs the City Engineer to update for 1975 the preliminary cost estimates for the Independence Beach sewer project; authorizes the purchase of a Medina tax records printout; and author- izes preparation of resolutions and other documents for a public hearing; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council hereby requests all necessary approvals and authorizations of the Metropolitan Sewer Board and the Metropolitan Council to proceed with construction of the project and its connection with the Metropolitan Sewer facility at Maple Plain in Calendar 1975, with bidding to be accomplished in March or April of 1975; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be forwarded to the Metropolitan Sewer Board, Metropolitan Council, Hennepin County Park Reserve District, City of Maple Plain and other interested parties.
