The main objective of our meeting was to finalize plans for our participation in this month's Spring Fling, to be celebrated this year as an Open House Building Tour. We planned to showcase the building improvements and the multiple uses of the facility while presenting on -going local talent and serving light refreshments. The Spring Fling was held on Monday, April 21, 1997. We feel that this year's event was a huge success; many comments were made as to how great the building looked and how much the plans for future use were appreciated. While enjoying local talent, citizens were encouraged to wander through the building and see for themselves how the building is currently being used as well as future plans. On display were the locations for the Lions Club, Law Enforcement, Library, Civil Defense, ICAT and the City Office. There was no charge to enjoy the evening; however, we did receive a donation in the amount of $25.00. Many thanks to Dee Johnson who coordinated the talent presentations; Jim and Cindy Carson who arranged the refreshments and served over 500 cookies, not to mention gallons of lemonade; and Darlene DeSommer who opened up her library. Darlene did such a good job of promoting "her library", she sold used books and took in other donations and I think was probably responsible for the several suggestions placed in the donations basket requesting more space for the library! Our Committee was pleased with the efforts of all who participated and think the evening was a big success. Thanks to the City Council members and Iona City employees who participated and were on hand to conduct tours and answer questions. In March I attended a day -long meeting of area Gem Community Committee representatives in which case studies of successful town projects were studied. One of the more interesting demonstrations was the new on-line Internet page sponsored by the Department of Commerce, featuring updates from IDOC, programs and services, business information, information on scenic advantages of Idaho, statistics, Idaho's position in the world marketplace, and profiles of Idaho's communities, large and small. Iona has a page included; however, I would like to see the information expanded and in some cases, supplied. I am including a copy of lona's home page for your review. There has been some interest expressed by some committee members to look into the future of the old lona Merc and our committee will be discussing this at a future meeting. Thanks again for your support of our committee's efforts for our community. Lois Steele,Verl Haderlie,Stan Gilgen, Dale Rockwood, Dena Johnson and Karla Burtenshaw Lois Steele conducted the meeting. We all walked through the building, room by room. We then each gave our views on what would make each room presentable, so that people would want to rent and use. It was the committees feeling it was better to get some rooms fmished so that revenue could be coming in, and to use each room to its best %laid -age. We also noticed that there wasn't a room that was clean, or that didn't have junk and etc. stacked around. We as a committee felt as you walk into the building you can see the disorganization through the windows. Several things were commented on that was very positive and that was coming along, but we need to work on it faster, and yet keep the building in good presentable conditions for anyone that happens to come into the building. A list of what the committee noticed in each room that needs to be addressed is included on the next page. It was decided that Lois Steele would introduce and comment to the Iona City Council along with DaleRockwood, and Verl Haderlie Iona City Council Meeting Agenda from the Committee, Lois Steele Chairwomen Lois Steele Introduction, name each room Dale Rockwood: Funds, Grants, and Council Room.
