A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD
~~~~ AUTHORIZING THE APPROPRIATION OF TWENTY-FIVE THOUSAND
SEVEN HUNDRED AND FIFTY DOLLARS FROM THE UNAPPROPRIATED
GENERAL FUND BALANCE FOR THE 1999 INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF THE
OLDER PERSON PROGRAM SERIES
- - WHEREAS, The United Nations has launched a yeazlong celebration proclaiming
1999 as the International .Year of Older Persons with the theme being, "Towazds a
Society for all Ages", and

WHEREAS, There has, been an enormous growth in the older adult population in
the City of Lynwood in recent years; and
WHEREAS, The older adult population is one of our most valuable resources;
and
WHEREAS, The objective of the International Yeaz of Older Persons is to
promote the United Nations principles of independence, participation, care; self-
fulfillment and dignity within a broad conceptual framework embracing: the economic,
political and'social status of older persons, the contribution provided by older persons to
their communities and their environment; and
WHEREAS, Inter-generational exchanges and the achievement of multi-
generational consensus would be beneficial to everyone; and
WHEREAS, Programs recognizing older persons would be greatly successful in
bringing about awazeness of issues, services, benefits and conditions facing our older
population; and

WHEREAS, The City Council continues to honor contributions of its diverse
citizens throughout the year with awards and celebrations; and
WHEREAS, The City of Lynwood is encouraging diverse organizations to host
events as a part of the yeazlong celebration; and
WHEREAS,The City of Lynwood acknowledges that it is time for all our
residents to come together in a spirit of mutual respect and civic harmony, to recognize
the positive image of aging; and
WHEREAS, The City of Lynwood is planning various programs to include an
activity called Stepping out for Senior Centers, a senior citizen awards banquet, a senior
citizens seminar as well as various other programs; and
WHEREAS, These programs were not included as part of the adopted 1998/99
fiscal budget; and
WHEREAS, The projected operating budget for these programs is $25, 750.00.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the City Council of the City of
Lynwood does hereby find, proclaim, order and resolve as follows:
Section 1. The City Manager or his designee is authorized to carryout
any transactions as so ordered by this resolution.
Section 2. That a fund appropriation in the amount of twenty-five
thousand seven hundred and fifty dollars be executed as follows:

Section 3. - This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its
adoption.
