Home My Public Portal About2012-16 - RE-ESTABLISHING ELECTION DISTRICTS (2) ORDINANCE 2012 -16 ' AN ORDINANCE RE- ESTABLISHING ELECTION DISTRICTS FOR THE CITY OF GREENCASTLE, INDIANA, PUTNAM COUNTY WHEREAS, the City of Greencastle established election districts through Ordinance No. 1990 -23 an Ordinance Amending Chapter 290 of the Greencastle Code to Establish Election Districts; WHEREAS, pursuant to Indiana Code 36- 4- 6 -5(g), the City was required to establish election zones in the year 2002 and every ten years thereafter. The City established election zones again, pursuant in Ordinance 2002 -13; WHEREAS, a Census was conducted in 2010. Results of the census indicated that the City's population was now 10,326. As a result, the City remains a third class city, but it must follow I.C. 36 -4 -6-4 in establishing its election zones, rather than I.C. 364-6 -5. WHEREAS, The Council Wards, described in Ordinance 2002 -13 are composed of contiguous territory, are reasonably compact, do not cross precinct boundary lines, and, Census data indicates that the voter registration population in each ward, remains as nearly equal as is possible, within legally accepted deviations. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GREENCASTLE that, the City of Greencastle shall have four wards and shall have one Council Representative from each ward. Beginning with the next regularly scheduled election, the City shall have three council members that are elected at- large. BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED that the geographical boundaries of Ordinance 2002 -13 shall remain unchanged for the conducting of Primary and General Elections of the City of Greencastle. A map of the wards is attached hereto and made a part hereof. This Ordinance shall have full force and effect upon passage of the Greencastle Common Council and its approval by the Mayor. A copy of this Ordinance shall be filed with the Putnam County Clerk within thirty (30) days of its adoption.
