HomeMy Public PortalAbout1976-010Village of Medina Hamel, Minnesota 55340 RESOLUTION NO. 7629 , REGARDING PROPOSED TRANSIT SERVICE WHEREAS the City of Medina has fewer than 2,700 persons living in fewer than 700 homes and apartment units (2,396 in 619 dwelling units, according to the 1970 Census); and WHEREAS these dwelling units are scattered over a 274-square-mile area, including three widely -separated clusters of more than 70 homes each; and WHEREAS these factors and the diversity of employment patterns of Medina residents make it highly unlikely that metropolitan bus service would serve more than a very small minority of Medina residents; and WHEREAS the Metropolitan Council has placed Medina in its rural service area, a fact indicating that future development will be quite gradual; and WHEREAS placement of Medina in an active bus service area would open the way for an increase in the metro transit property tax levied on Medina property from the current .172 mills to 1.72 mills, an increase of more than 1 mills; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Medina City Council hereby strongly opposes any "improvements" or additions to Metropolitan Transit Commission bus service that would involve the City of Medina; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Medina City Council reiterates its position against the acquisition of Medicine Lake Lines by the Metropolitan Transit Commission. Passed by the Medina City Council this A_ DONNA ROEHL WA2 NEDDERM.EYER Clerk Mayor day of r e /41-tA , 1976.
