With an additional member, the Youth Commission membership will be complete. Julie Hamm discussed her reasons to join the Youth Commission. Jean reviewed the Youth Services update. The walk-in depression screening will take place from 10:00-12:00 on 10/10/13 at the library. The online anonymous screening can be taken 365 days per year. Local mental health professionals will be available at the screening as well. Marketing materials should start to be visible around town letting people know about the screening (www.helpyourselfhelpothers.org). At the 10/1/13 Board of Selectmen meeting Jean will talk about the depression screening and encourage members and their families to participate. When the data from the Metrowest Adolescent Health survey is released by the Wellness Committee (2012 data), Jean requested that Youth Commission members attend and be visible. Regarding community collaborations, Jean met with YMCA Director John Barclay to review the upcoming community survey (including Hopkinton, Ashland, and Holliston) and eventual Youth Summit planned for the spring of 2014. The new Youth Services website is now live. To be included in the October agenda: begin planning for MLK Day of Giving Back. On 9/22/13 Jean will have a Youth Services table at the Hopkinton Farmer’s Market. Margie and Renee volunteered to attend and support her there. Jean would also like Youth Commission member help at the Wellness Fair, which takes place at the high school in March, 2014. The group discussed potential give-away items to have available at local events. Renee and/or Jean will follow up with Action Copy to see about promotional materials for these kind of events. Margie will follow up and be placed on the agenda for the November Selectmen’s meeting to talk about MLK preparations. Next meeting: 10/8/13 Submitted: Renee Dean, Secretary Hopkinton Youth Commission
