HomeMy Public PortalAbout1976-025RESOLUTION NO. 76--5-
, CONCERNING CITIZEN LEAGUE STUDIES OF TAX BURDENS
WHEREAS the Citizens League annually conducts a study of tax
burdens on homes in various jurisdictions throughout the metro-
politan area; and
WHEREAS such studies do not show burdens imposed by special
assessments; and
WHEREAS failure to show those burdens creates a misleading
impression of the true impacts of taxation for municipal services,
in that some cities such as Minneapolis include in mill levies the
charges that are levied separately as special assessments in other
jurisdictions; and
WHEREAS we believe including special assessments in the Citizens
League studies would be well worth the additional efforts required,
even if those efforts are substantial,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Medina City Council hereby
cells upon the Citizens League to include representative burdens of
special assessments in each municipality in its tax burden studies
in order to help portray the true costs of providing; municipal
services; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be sent to
the Citizens League and to other interested parties.
Passed this 6th day of July, 1976, by the Medina City Council.
