Box 607 Greencastle, Indiana 46135 765-653-3100 RESOLUTION 2004- 4ti A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GREENCASTLE IN SUPPORT OF THE PROPOSED IVY TECH STATE COLLEGE SATELLITE CAMPUS IN GREENCASTLE WHEREAS,Ivy Tech State College has an existing satellite campus of the Wabash Valley Region located in leased facilities in Greencastle; and, WHEREAS,officials of Ivy Tech State College have worked diligently to expand programs, partnerships, and student enrollments; and, WHEREAS, Ivy Tech State College, in partnership with area high schools and Area 30 Career Center,offers a variety of dual credit opportunities for county students at substantial savings in tuition and fees; and, ,..� WHEREAS, growing the academic programs,continuing education programs,and corporate training programs of the College will be of benefit to all Greencastle and Putnam County citizens and businesses; and, WHEREAS,the City of Greencastle is centrally located between the regional campuses of Ivy Tech State College in Terre Haute, Indianapolis, Bloomington, and Lafayette; and, WHEREAS,Ivy Tech State College is seeking$250,000 in planning funds from the Indiana Legislature; and, NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GREENCASTLE, INDIANA THAT: 1. The City of Greencastle is committed to provide a 25 to 40 acre site for the facility at no charge to Ivy Tech State College or the State of Indiana. 2. The City of Greencastle will insure that water and sanitary sewer service are available at the site to support the project. 3. The Council supports the efforts of the various public and private entities working to secure a new Ivy Tech State College facility to benefit Greencastle,Putnam County and surrounding areas. 4. The Council supports the efforts of Ivy Tech State College to seek$250,000 from the Indiana Legislature to begin planning efforts for the new satellite campus that will be located in Greencastle. 5. The Council finds that development of a satellite campus in the County will have significant opportunities to expand partnerships with local high schools, Area 30 Career Center, and DePauw University. 6. The Council finds that promoting access to higher education and lifelong learning through the development of an expanded Ivy Tech facility is an important community development initiative. 7. The Council finds that an expanded Ivy Tech facility will have significant economic development benefits in expanding lifelong learning opportunities and job training opportunities for citizens of all ages. 8. This resolution shall be effective as of its date of adoption. PASSED AND RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of Greencastle at a special meeting this 27th day of December, 2004.
